An easy and impressive recipe for fan-shaped tofu with an Asian sauce. The special cut allows the sauce to penetrate, creating a crispy texture on the outside and soft on the inside.
Ingredients
- Firm Tofu
- Cornstarch (optional)
- A little oil for frying
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon silan or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 clove crushed garlic
- A little grated ginger
- Crushed chili flakes
Instructions
- Absorb liquids from the block of tofu thoroughly with paper towels.
- Place two chopsticks or wooden skewers on both sides of the tofu block. Cut thin slices, with the sticks preventing the knife from cutting all the way through the tofu.
- For extra crispiness, you can sprinkle a little cornstarch into the slits.
- Heat a pan with a little oil and fry the tofu block from all sides until golden brown. Alternatively, use an air fryer.
- In a bowl, mix all the sauce ingredients: soy sauce, silan/maple syrup, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and chili.
- Pour the sauce into the pan with the tofu, and baste it with the sauce using a spoon.
- Cook for one to two minutes until the sauce reduces and thickens.
Tips
Cutting the tofu into a fan creates a larger surface area, resulting in a crispy texture. Using chopsticks as a stop for cutting is a great trick to keep the base of the tofu intact.
