Sweet-and-Salty Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars You Can't Stop Snacking On

I'll admit it: sometimes I want to munch on something that isn't the healthiest, lowest-calorie, or highest-protein option out there.

Just throw together something sweet and salty and snack on it. No guilt required.

So even though I'm in the middle of a long, drawn-out cutting phase (again), I still find room in my calorie budget for calorie-dense foods.

And trust me, this one's worth it. Big time.

I'm not exactly reinventing the wheel here.

It's just salty crackers, peanut butter, and chocolate.

But—and this is a big but—put them together in sweet-and-salty layers, and suddenly it's a party in your mouth.

So the next time the munchies hit – think of me and these salty cracker, peanut butter, and chocolate bars.

A Few Recipe Notes

I used a 23 cm (9.0 in) by 15 cm (about 9 by 6-inch) Pyrex baking dish.

I used plain old supermarket crackers. Feel free to swap in any crackers you like, or even cookies such as petit beurre (crisp butter-style cookies popular in Israel).

In the video, I used natural peanut butter. If you'd rather use a thicker peanut butter, go for it. It'll only help here. Just check that it doesn't contain palm oil.

I melted the chocolate in the microwave and added 1 tablespoon of canola oil to make it more fluid. That adds about 100 calories to the whole recipe. You can try leaving it out, but the melted chocolate won't be as runny.

When Should You Eat These?

When you've got a serious case of the munchies. Just try not to polish off the whole pan.

Since these bars are high in fat, I wouldn't recommend eating them right before a workout. They could leave your stomach feeling uncomfortable while you train.
